Starter Kit

Like all parts of the world, Germany has its own kind of academic system. Even though as a virtual exchange student (VIP or VEEP), you will not be attending classes physically in Germany, it is always a good idea to familiarise yourself with the German academic system. Therefore, we have compiled a 3-video series to get you acquainted. The videos cover three essential aspects of the German academic system:

  1. Types of Universities in Germany
  2. The Grading System
  3. Information on Times and Dates

Please note that some of the videos may contain information that is only relevant for degree-seeking students. For instance, the semester contributions mentioned in the video only apply to degree-seeking students and not virtual exchange students. VIP and VEEP are completely free of charge for students from partner universities.

StudIP vs. ILIAS

Stud.IP and ILIAS are both important E-Learning platforms at JLU, but they are used in different ways by lecturers. Stud.IP is used for activities like course registration, announcements, and file sharing, making it great for general course management. In contrast, ILIAS offers advanced tools for digital course creation, such as online tests and video lectures. Many courses link their Stud.IP page to ILIAS for easy access.
