About JLU's International Endeavours

Justus Liebig University offers a great number of English language degree programmes and many courses, which are taught in English. The university also takes part in the Erasmus+ program and has many partner institutions all over Europe and beyond. In sum, we count more than 330 Erasmus partner universities and bilateral collaborations. In case you are looking for international exchange or courses, which are not offered by the Erasmus+ program, there are other cooperations and exchange programmes that might be interesting for you.

The Hessen-State-Cooperations, for instance, include universities in Wisconsin (USA), Massachusetts (USA), and Queensland (Australia), just to name a few. There are numerous other partnerships and exchange agreements with universities worldwide. By establishing three JLU Information Points, Justus Liebig University Giessen is strengthening its long-term cooperation with the partner universities Macquarie University Sydney (Australia), Universidad de los Andes Bogotá (Colombia) and University of Lodz (Poland). Likewise, the partner universities are able to present themselves by establishing their own office at JLU.

Partnerships and Cooperations in Numbers
  • around 100 formal agreements for partnerships, cooperative programs, and exchanges worldwide
  • seven strategic partner regions: Australia, Europe (with a focus on Eastern Europe), Colombia, Southern Africa, Wisconsin (USA) as well as China and South Asia (under development)
  • three external representations: JLU Information Points in Australia, Colombia, and Poland

To pursue our internationalization goals, we have seven dedicated partner regions: Australia, Europe (with a focus on Eastern Europe), Colombia, Southern Africa, Wisconsin (USA) as well as China and South Asia (in development).

JLU also offers the Virtual International Programme (VIP) ever since the winter semester 2020/2021, which offers more than 80 online courses in different subjects. The courses are taught in English, French, German and Spanish and they are available to international undergraduate and graduate students from partner universities of JLU. The programme is available free of charge and all courses can be accessed from the comfort of your home. We also intend to continue the VIP beyond the end of the pandemic.

JLU students can also apply for international summer and winter schools offered by JLU and our partner institutions.

If you are interested in acquiring German language skills, you can also use the opportunity to take German courses online or on campus.

Another programme JLU offers is meet2succeed. The aim of the programme is to make it easier for international JLU students to get started in Germany and in the German higher education system.

As we all want to support you in finding out about the doors our degrees might open, JLU offers a special career support for International Students. The support programme intends to inform our graduates about their future prospects.
